Originally conceived as an Italian espresso with lemon, the espresso romano is actually of dubious origin. This is where "The Romano" gets is name. With this misconception in mind this cocktail blends american bourbon with Mr. Black's Coffee Liquer, and Italian made Cynar amaro into a rich layered drink that finishes with a refined bitterness. The lemon serves to lift the drink and accent the citrus elements of both the coffee and Cynar.
Combine all ingredients except lemon with ice in a mixing glass and stir until chilled.
Strain into a Nick and Nora and express the lemon oil into the drink.
Run the peel over the rim of the glass and lay delicately over the rim.
