This horchata takes a few turns that lead it away from the light of more traditional recipes, but in the shadows, new things emerge and this beverage takes you on a sensory journey that will both comfort and excite those bold enough to entertain it.
The warmth of the cinnamon teases you with a glance of heat, which is then hastily mellowed by the smooth nature of the vanilla, the creaminess of this drink may lure you into a false sense of relaxation, but the caffeine and tequila will quickly sharpen your wits.
For day or night,
The Dark Horchata.
Add all the spirits, espresso shot, simple syrup and milk into a cocktail shaker.
Ignite a few cardamon pods, capturing the smoke in an upside-down cocktail glass.
While the smoke is accumulating, add a large cube of ice as well as some smaller ice fragments into your cocktail shaker, shake well.
Strain the cocktail into your (now cardamon-smoke infused) cocktail glass.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick (a smouldering one if you're feeling devilish) and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.
