My favorite dessert is pumpkin pie, but I cannot get on board with the the generic pumpkin spice lattes that are all the rage in Autumn because the flavored syrup is so heavy and fake tasting. Mr Black inspired me to create my own PSL: the SS Pumpkin (Smoky/Spicy Pumpkin). It has all the best parts of Autumn: real pumpkin, rich and flavorful coffee liqueur, a hint of smoke like an evening bonfire, and a little kick of rye whiskey and spices that warm me up better than my oversized infinity scarf and tan Uggs ever could.



 2 oz Mr Black Coffee Liqueur
 1 oz Rye whiskey
 1 tbsp Pure pumpkin puree
 ½ tsp Light brown sugar
 ¼ tsp Pumpkin pie spice
 ¼ tsp Sea salt
  tsp Cumin
 1 dash Black pepper bitters
 1 dash Liquid smoke
 1 pinch Smoked paprika



Measure pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, brown sugar, sea salt, and cumin into a small bowl. Mix and mash together until very well blended and smooth.


Add pumpkin mixture, Mr Black, and rye whiskey to shaker cup.


Add a few cubes of ice and shake until outside of cup is frosty and pumpkin mixture is fully blended into the liquid, approximately 30-45 seconds.


Pour into small rocks glass over 2-3 cubes of ice.


Garnish with a pinch of smoked paprika.
