The inspiration of the cocktail was attempting to be unique with coffee liquor. As coffee was the required flavor I started with what went well with coffee - dark chocolate. I added cherry as a third flavor, thinking about the dark chocolate and what would go well with that. Some trail and error and Cognac entered the cocktail. I needed to cut down on the coffee liquor, which was dominating the drink, and it was on hand I tried it out and it rounded out the drink.
Prepare a coupe drinking glass. Express the orange peel in the coupe and rub peel along the rim. Place the Maraschino cherries and the orange peel on toothpick and set in or on the glass.
In a mixing glass combine Mr. Black's Coffee Liquor, Dark Chocolate Liquor, VSOP Cognac, Cherry Bitters, Maraschino Cherry Juice, and Honey. Stirring until the honey is dissolved.
Add to the mixing glass ice (in whichever form is available to you). Stir the cocktail until cold.
Pour the cocktail into the coupe, straining out the ice.
