Utilizing syrupy figs from the second or 'new wood' season of harvest, the New Wood Brew is a rendition of a classic oatmeal breakfast. Warmth and richness are provided by bourbon and Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur while creamy oat milk and zingy fig syrup round out the drink and add a distinct malty sweetness reminiscent of a mapley bowl of oats. A smattering of freshly grated nutmeg completes the New Wood Brew, a drink perfect for the Fall season.

1 oz Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur
 1.25 oz BourbonBasil Hayden's
 0.75 oz Homemade Fig Syrup
1.50 oz Barista Style Oat Milk

Measure and add all ingredients to a shaker tin.

Add ice to the tin and shake vigorously for 8-10 seconds.

Strain into a rocks glass over a large rock of ice. Garnish with a smattering of freshly grated nutmeg over top.

Fig Syrup

Quarter 8 brown figs and add them to a small saucepan.

Add 2 cups of demerara sugar, the zest and juice of 1 lemon, 1 tablespoon of high-quality balsamic vinegar, and 1 cup of water.

Bring mixture to a boil then simmer for one hour until the figs are deeply caramelized and brown.

Strain through a sieve and cool before using. Save caramelized figs for use in salads and desserts.
