This cocktail actually came about as a result of Negroni Week. I wanted to create something that was different than anything I'd ever seen or tasted before. That led me into a deep dive of the history of gin where I learned about Genever. The Genever combined with the dry sweetness of the Mr. Black, a wonderful substitute for sweet vermouth, and the Campari/Saler's combination (the gentian root in the Saler's works well with the Mr. Black), makes for a refreshingly different Negroni.
