The Black Manhattan is a modern classic that only a fool would try to improve. But I am the greater fool. Averna and Mr. Black pair naturally, so I introduced it into the drink. The spicy rye notes still came through too strongly, so I wanted to mellow it out a bit more and further accentuate the Mr. Black. The Creme de Cacao did just that, adding a touch of sweetness against the rye while also creating this beautiful mocha quality with Mr. Black. Fee Brothers Aromatic adds cinnamon to the nose.

Ingredients

 ¾ oz Rye Whiskey
 ¾ oz Mr Black Coffee Liqueur
 ¾ oz Averna
 ½ oz Creme de Cacao

Directions

Add the rye, Mr. Black, Averna, and Creme de Cacao to a mixing glass.

Fill the mixing glass with ice. Let it sit to chill the drink. Stir to mix and dilute ingredients.

Strain into a coupe. (Served up).

Garnish with 1-2 sprays of Fee Brothers Aromatic bitters, sprayed through an atomizer. (Alternatively, before pouring the drink, rinse the coupe with several dashes of Fee Brothers Aromatic).

(Optional) Garnish with a lemon peel to the drink; do not express the oils over the drink.
