My cocktail is inspired by the classic Tiki Cocktails of old and their super intricate flavor combinations. I wanted to create a Tiki Style cocktail, but one that was coffee forward and showed off the flavor profile of Mr. Black, which I adore. The name was inspired by the Black Magic cocktail I once had at the Mai Kai, which made me realize how well coffee can combine with classic Tiki Flavors. I tried to create a cocktail where Mr. Black was the star, complemented by classic tiki flavors.



 1 oz Dark Jamaican Rum
 1 oz Dark Cuban/Puerto Rican style Rum
 1.50 oz Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur
 1 tsp Pimento Dram
 1 oz Orange Juice
 1 oz Lime Juice
 1 oz White Grapefruit Juice
 0.45 oz Falernum (I use homemade, but Velvet is fine) (scant ounce)
 0.50 oz Rich Honey Syrup (2:1 ratio)
 1 tsp Vanilla Syrup
 2 dashes Absinthe or Herbsaint
 2 dashes Angostura Bitters



Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice and a large cube


Shake thoroughly for 10 seconds


Double strain into a large glass filled with ice, or your favorite Tiki mug


Stir cocktail a few times with a cinnamon stick, then leave stick in as a garnish


Garnish also with a maraschino cherry and pineapple fronds
