It’s Midnight in Manhattan, this is no time to get cute. This cocktail takes its name from the lyrics of Bruce Springsteen’s 1973 song ‘New York City Serenade’. I set out trying to make a variation on the Manhattan that would suit the lyric. I did not expect to invent something quite this good. I tend to make them in pairs as my girlfriend likes them as much as me. Arguably this is a meeting of a Manhattan and a Revolver and yet is something all it’s own. Made all the better with Mr Black.

 2 oz American Whiskey(Jack Daniels)
0.50 oz Mr Black Coffee Liqueur
 0.50 oz Red Vermouth(Martini Rosso)
 1 dash Angostura Bitters
 1 dash Orange Bitteres
 1 Maraschino Cherry

Add all ingredients (excluding the cherry) to a mixing glass.

Add a few ice cubes to the mixing glass and stir for a few seconds till chilled

Strain cocktail into coupe or similar glass (or whatever drinking vessel you have on hand).

Add Maraschino cherry (you can put it in the glass before the cocktail, no one will know)

Drink/ give it to someone

Repeat (but not too many obviously)

Sounds good to me. I just made something like it. I used an orange peel but no orange bitters and no cherry. Loved it. Good name, too.
