All of the Mai Tai's out there have always been way too sweet for me. I'm the type of person that typically likes his cocktails on the drier, perhaps even spicier, side of the spectrum. That's what led me to create this cocktail, using a black spiced rum and Mr. Black. Some traditional and not so traditional Mai Tai ingredients round out this spiced and flavorful take on the Mai Tai.



 1.50 oz Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur
 1.50 oz Black Spiced Rum(The Kraken 94 Original )
 0.50 oz Velvet Falernum Liqueur(John D. Taylor's)
 0.50 oz Rhum Clement Creole Shrubb
 0.50 oz BG Reynolds Orgeat Syrup
 1 Orange and lemon slice
 1 Mint Sprig
 1 pinch Black pepper (freshly ground)
 1 pinch Grated Nutmeg



Add all ingredients, except garnishes, to shaker along with crushed ice.


Lightly shake for 20-30 seconds and pour entire contents. ice and all, into chilled cocktail glass


Garnish with a slice of lemon and orange, a big bunch of mint, and some freshly ground black pepper and nutmeg.


If Kraken 94 Rum is not available, you can substitute Gosling's Black Seal Rum
