Would this be considered original? There is already a similar recipe https://www.diffordsguide.com/en-au/cocktails/recipe/2690/hummingbird

It does share similarities with the name and ingredients but one is a creamy banana cocktail whilst this is more tiki-fied. If cocktails are too similar to an existing cocktail then it will score less for creativity if it makes the finals.

@superjee had no idea the diffords recipe existed when developing this, but thank you for pointing it out. As Steve said I think it’s different enough to justify its own cocktail.

One last thing, as I’m feeling a bit bothered by the comment about the cocktail being considered original. First I do not think it is fair to police anyone’s cocktail via a Difford’s name search for originality (unless you are an official judge). I have been eagerly anticipating the competition ever since I followed it last year and was unable to compete due to lack of access to Mr. Black. Therefore it would be entirely foolish for me to copy someone else’s cocktail, because I want to put myself in the best position I can to place high. Furthermore, had I named this anything but “Hummingbird,” the Difford’s Guide cocktail would have never populated and you would have not had grounds to say what you did, as my cocktail is almost entirely different aside from using banana as a flavor. That drink is blended, uses fresh banana (absent from mine), coconut (also absent from mine), a rum instead of a rhum, has no pineapple, no cinnamon, and no orgeat. Some backstory, my girlfriend and I were sitting together one night early last year brainstorming cool cocktail ideas, and said “why don’t you make one based on hummingbird cake?” I literally had never even heard of a hummingbird cake at that point, and came up with an idea for a cocktail (which originally had no coffee, which came to me later once the competition was announced). I’m sorry for this extended response and I hope I have not upset you in any way through it. This competition means a lot to me and I am very proud of this creation of my own.
