As someone who prefers a generous amount of sugar in my coffee, I wanted to create a cocktail that has as many sweet flavours as it does coffee. I went with fruity flavours as the source of sweetness, using maraschino liqueur and blackberry syrup, as well as some slightly more bitter fruits to balance out the sugar. Trying to include a variety of complimentary flavours, I loosely leant on the forest for inspiration, using blackberries as the main flavour besides coffee, thus birthing Forest Brew



 0.75 oz Mr Black Coffee Liqueur
 0.75 oz Maraschino Liqueur
 1 oz Vodka
 1 oz Fresh Red Grapefruit Juice
 0.50 oz Fresh Lime Juice
 1 oz Homemade Blackberry Syrup



To make the syrup, add 1 part sugar to 3/4 part water in a pan. Add blackberries and heat until the sugar is dissolved, bringing to a light simmer to draw the flavour out of the berries. Leave the blackberries in while cooling, and use a fine strainer to remove all bits while bottling once cool


Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake with ice


Strain into a coupe or fizz glass, using a fine strainer to remove any bits from the grapefruit or lime juice and any small bits of ice


Express a piece of orange peel over the top of the drink


Garnish with 3 blackberries on a cocktail pick, with a thin strip of grapefruit peel wrapped around them
