In Louisville, the Kentucky Derby isn't just one race on the first Saturday of May, it's a spectacle that begins weeks before the horses line up at the post. The parties and balls have already been full swing and the bourbon is flowing like Prohibition has just been repealed. It's no wonder by the time Derby Day rolls around, people are in need of a little caffeine, but with this being Derby and Mint Juleps just around the corner, I came up with a little morning starter to get the races going.

Ingredients

 2 oz Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur
 2 oz Bourbon(Woodford Reserve Double Oaked )
 1.50 oz Chilled Freshly Brewed Espresso
 0.50 tsp Powdered Sugar
 3 dashes Woodford Reserve Sassafras & Sorghum Bitters
 8 Fresh Mint Leaves
 1.52 oz Heavy Cream
 1 Woodford Reserve Bourbon Cherry

Directions

In a mixing glass, muddle the mint leaves just enough to release the oils

Add the powdered sugar, Mr. Black, bourbon, and bitters

Add ice and stir 20-30 seconds

Fill a tall collins glass about 2/3 full with crushed ice and double strain contents of mixing glass into it. Add enough ice to fill to top of glass

Slowly add chilled espresso and add ice if necessary.

Using a squeeze bottle, add cream to cocktail. I like to stick the tip of the bottle down into the ice and squeeze to make ripples in the cream.

Add a straw and a cherry, give it a swirl and enjoy.
